Kerala's oldest medical college, Medical College Thiruvananthapuram, is a famous institution that opened its doors in 1951 and was dedicated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Early documents refer to the college as Medical College (of Thiruvananthapuram), as it was the state's sole medical institution when it was founded. Given that it offers higher education and medical treatment throughout Southern India, GMC Thiruvananthapuram has evolved into one of the All India Medical Sciences Institutes. It is the biggest specialist hospital in South Kerala and provides care to the surrounding Tamil Nadu districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. A sizable hospital block, trauma treatment, and an outpatient section are all features of the facility. The hospital, which has 747 beds, can accommodate 3128 patients daily and offers 7,500,000 outpatients consultation services annually.

The hospital does 35 cervical transplants, 15 operations, and an average of 55 big and 125 minor surgeries each day. Throughout the whole year, 90 to 95 percent of the beds are occupied.
Sree Avittom Thirunal Hospital
In 1952, a hospital for women and kids was created. The Travancore royal family constructed us in honor of Prince Sri Avitom Thirunal, who passed away at the age of eight from rheumatism. Pediatrics and Obstetrics are also housed within the facility. The OB-GYN Department oversees cooperative research institutions run by the WHO and the Indian Medical Research Council, as well as prenatal clinics, obstetrics, infertility, newborn clinics, and vesicular moles. The hospital has the highest delivery rate in Kerala and offers pediatric treatment in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, genetics, surgery, and psychiatry.
